V1 Gallery and Gallery Poulsen Copenhagen

July 22, 2016

During my stay I journeyed over to the Meat packing district where small independent galleries have opened alongside restaurants and boutique breweries. There is a great atmosphere among the old buildings that have been relatively left as they were when they were closed down, giving the space an interesting juxtaposition between an industrial heart and creativity. V1 Gallery started in 2002 with there aim to be involved in representing local and international artists and create a strong sense of community within the area. I had a talk with one of the exhibition curators who gave me advice on exhibiting in the gallery and what I could do for financial help through the Danish government who have a range of different artist grants available for visiting artists. Gallery Poulsen is in the same area and has the same aim for representing artists but they have a stronger cohort of American artists and the gallery also takes part in art festivals in New York, Miami and Basel. The area was very accessible and I would like to look into avenues for future projects in these areas especially working with the Danish government.
